Occupation Jobs in metro 10th percentile Median here U.S. median
Hand laborers and material movers 48,860 $14.74 $18.55 $19.35
Stockers and order fillers 45,270 $14.14 $17.36 $17.95
Forklift and industrial truck operators 9,290 $17.91 $22.99 $22.32
Light truck drivers 20,000 $15.12 $20.55 $21.57
Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers 29,060 $18.40 $24.80 $28.19
Retail salespersons 91,370 $13.79 $16.50 $17.03
Cashiers 56,340 $13.33 $14.54 $15.81
Customer service representatives 63,440 $14.91 $19.02 $21.53
Home health and personal care aides 28,350 $15.00 $15.81 $17.21
Nursing assistants 23,490 $16.67 $18.28 $20.32
Medical assistants 18,670 $17.14 $21.60 $21.97

Electricians 12,990 $18.44 $28.19 $30.38
HVAC mechanics and installers 9,140 $19.00 $27.90 $29.33

Read this table with care. Florida's minimum has risen since BLS took these figures, so every number under $15.00 is out of date. That includes cashiers at $14.54 and the low end for retail and stockers. Miami trails the U.S. median in all but one row. Forklift operators, at $22.99, are the exception.

Worked example. A cashier at the new $15 floor makes $600 for 40 hours. A hand laborer at $18.55 makes $742. If you can lift, that is $142 more a week. Other metros: pay benchmarks.

Local pay rules

  • Minimum wage: $15.00 from September 30, 2026 through December 31, 2027, so nothing changes on January 1, 2027 (FloridaCommerce, read October 31, 2026; minimum wage by state).
  • City or county rates: Florida Statute 218.077 bars local governments from setting their own minimum wage for private employers, with narrow exceptions such as direct subsidies.
  • Tipped jobs: U.S. DOL's table, updated July 1, 2026, shows a $3.02 tip credit. At $15.00 that leaves $11.98 in cash wages. Tips must carry you to $15.
  • Payday: Florida sets no rule, per U.S. DOL's table, revised January 1, 2023 (pay frequency laws). Ask how often you get paid before you accept.

Local rights: few, so get promises in writing

Paid sick leave: none required. Chapter 448 of the 2026 Florida Statutes, the state's general labor law, lists no sick leave rule. Miami cannot add one: Statute 218.077 says local governments may not require benefits beyond state or federal law, and it names sick leave.

Fair workweek: banned locally. Statute 448.077, added in 2024, bars local rules on scheduling, "including predictive scheduling."

Breaks. Neither U.S. DOL table lists a Florida rule for adults (break laws).

Your record. JobPin found no statewide private-employer rule (ban the box laws).

One real local tool: wage theft. Miami-Dade's Consumer Mediation Center takes claims for work done in the county, from private employers of any location. The amount must exceed $60 and be no more than $15,000, and the work must fall within the past 12 months. The employer gets 20 days to respond, then mediation, then a hearing. A hearing officer can order three times the wages claimed. The catch: if certified mail cannot reach the employer, the case stalls, and the hearing is your one chance to present proof. Bring stubs, texts and witnesses. Call 786-469-2333.

Where else to go. JobPin found no state office that takes wage complaints. For federal minimum wage or overtime, call U.S. DOL's Miami office, 305-598-6607, or Fort Lauderdale area office, 954-356-6896. To sue over Florida's minimum wage, you must first give written notice, and the employer gets 15 days to pay (Statute 448.110). More: unpaid wages.

Your county decides your board (boards' sites, read October 31, 2026).

Miami-Dade: CareerSource South Florida

Scroll horizontally to view every column.

Center Address Phone
Miami Downtown Library 101 W. Flagler St., 33130 786-582-3013
Little Havana 5040 NW 7 St., Suite 200, 33126 305-442-6900
Hialeah Downtown 240 E. 1 Ave., Suite 222, Hialeah 33010 305-883-8070
North Miami Beach 801 NE 167 St., 33162 305-654-7175

Most open Monday to Friday, 8 to 5; the library center 9:30 to 6. Homestead is by appointment. The board enforces a dress code, so dress as you would for an interview. It offers scholarships and Individual Training Account vouchers, usable only at approved schools and for occupations on its target list. It posts no dollar cap.

Broward: CareerSource Broward. Central center: 2550 W. Oakland Park Blvd., (954) 677-5555. Residents may get a scholarship of up to $12,000, or a paid internship up to $16 an hour. Business casual is required. Of the boards here, only Broward posts a dollar figure. Elsewhere, see free job help.

Getting there on Miami-Dade Transit

Metrobus and Metrorail cost $2.25, with free bus-to-rail transfers on an EASY Card. A 1-Month Pass is $112.50, a 7-Day Pass $29.25. Tap and your day caps at $5.65. Metromover is free (Miami-Dade, read October 31, 2026).

The monthly pass pays off at 50 rides. Two rides on 22 workdays is 44, or $99, so a plain 5-day commute should not buy it. Regular transfers or weekend trips change that math.

Low income? Two county cards help Miami-Dade residents. The Transit Mobility EASY Card is free transit if your yearly income is under $20,385. The Commuter-Reduced Fare card is half price between $20,386 and $27,180. Full time at $15 is $31,200, over both limits. Twenty-five hours a week is $19,500, which qualifies for free rides. The county's text still mentions the pandemic, so confirm at 786-469-5151.

Who employs people here

September is preliminary (BLS Economy at a Glance, extracted October 30, 2026). Unemployment was 3.2%.

Scroll horizontally to view every column.

Sector Jobs, September 2026 Change over 12 months
Total nonfarm 2,965,600 +0.4%
Trade, transportation and utilities 649,000 +0.2%
Professional and business services 529,400 +0.4%
Education and health services 483,600 +2.6%
Leisure and hospitality 339,500 +0.8%
Government 322,200 +0.4%
Financial activities 214,600 -2.4%
Construction 159,200 -0.7%
Manufacturing 101,500 +0.7%

Trade and transportation leads this tri-county metro. Education and health grew fastest, 2.6%. Miami-Dade's PortMiami reports 340,078 jobs supported in a study of 2023 activity (county, May 17, 2024). MIA reports 945,682 statewide in 2025 (MIA, June 2, 2026). Both counts include indirect jobs, so they are not hiring numbers. Look for employers on each site.

Job fairs and hiring events

JobPin has no Miami job fair hub in its sitemap. The nearest are in Broward and Palm Beach: Sunrise, Oakland Park and West Palm Beach. All three showed no upcoming event today. Sunrise's last fair was October 29 at Amerant Bank Arena.

  • Paychecks for Patriots Job Fair: Tuesday, November 17, 9 AM to 1 PM, Tamarac Community Center, in Broward. Free and open to all; veterans get 9 to 10 AM, others from 10. Parking and a shuttle run from 9141 W. Commercial Blvd. Register first (CareerSource Broward).
  • Best Hire's next Miami date is a virtual event on March 25, 2027.

CareerSource South Florida's job calendar showed no events for November when read. Getting ready: how to get hired at a job fair.

A plan for this week

  1. Monday, November 2: working part time or between jobs? Call 786-469-5151 and ask, "Do I qualify for the Mobility or Commuter-Reduced Fare card?"
  2. Tuesday: dress for an interview and visit 101 W. Flagler St. Ask, "Am I eligible for a training voucher, and which schools are approved?"
  3. Wednesday: apply to five jobs. Ask each, "How often is payday, and do you offer paid sick days?" Florida will not answer that for you.
  4. Thursday: register for November 17. Broward resident? Call (954) 677-5555 about the scholarship.
  5. Friday: save your schedule and pay stubs. Miami-Dade's 12-month clock starts from your work dates.

How to verify a listing

Anything under $15 is out of date or illegal unless the job is tipped. A posting written before September 30 may still show a lower rate. Follow JobPin's source link, confirm the job with the employer, and check that "weekly pay" appears in writing. Never pay to apply. How we check: how JobPin verifies listings.

No. The state's labor chapter lists none, and Statute 218.077 bars cities and counties from requiring it.

Is there a job fair hub for Miami on JobPin?

Not yet. Use the Sunrise, Oakland Park or West Palm Beach hubs. The next fair found is November 17 in Tamarac.

What can I do if a Miami employer does not pay me?

File with Miami-Dade's Consumer Mediation Center, 786-469-2333, if over $60 and within 12 months. This is information, not legal advice.

Can I get paid to train in South Florida?

Possibly in Broward, where the board offers paid internships up to $16 an hour for residents who qualify. Ask (954) 677-5555.
