How we built this page
Every rate on this page comes from one of three places: the state labor agency, the governor's office, or the U.S. Department of Labor state table (updated July 1, 2026). We checked each one on October 21, 2026. If a state had not posted its 2027 rate, we say so and give no number. We never estimate a rate.
Rates are for most adult workers. Where federal, state and local rates differ, you are owed the highest one (DOL state minimum wage page, updated July 1, 2026). Tipped, youth and training rates are listed only where the state source gives them.

Vermont: 2027 rate not posted yet
Vermont's rate is $14.42 (DOL table, July 1, 2026), and Vermont adjusts it each year by formula (DOL table). It had not posted a 2027 rate on its labor agency site when we checked on October 25, 2026 (Vermont Department of Labor newsroom). We will add it when it does.
New York: no increase on January 1, 2027
New York's rate stays at $17.00 in New York City, Long Island and Westchester, and $16.00 in the rest of the state. The state says one of the "off-ramp" conditions in its law was met, so the scheduled increase does not happen. Home care aides still rise to $20.00 downstate and $19.00 upstate. Governor Hochul has proposed a law to adjust the wage starting in March 2027; it is a proposal, not law (ny.gov minimum wage page, viewed October 21, 2026).

What the raise means for your paycheck
- Only new hours. The new rate applies to hours you work on or after the effective date. If one pay period covers late December and early January, expect two rates on the stub.
- Tipped workers. Some states raise the cash wage too: New Jersey $6.61, Maine $7.85, Ohio $5.70, South Dakota $6.15, Colorado $12.69 (state sources above). Tips plus cash wage must reach the full minimum.
- Teens and trainees. Some states set lower youth or training rates: Washington $15.07 for ages 14 and 15, Minnesota $9.68 for under-20 trainees, Nebraska $13.50 for ages 14 and 15 (state sources above). See summer jobs for teens and your first paycheck explained.
- How often you get paid depends on state law, not the rate. See pay frequency laws by state and jobs with weekly pay.
- Compare the floor to real pay. Most postings pay above the minimum. Check pay benchmarks by job and learn how to read pay on a job posting.
If your employer does not pay the new rate
- Check the date. The new rate starts with hours worked on the effective date.
- Check your city. A city rate may be higher than the state rate.
- Ask payroll in writing, with the date, your hours and the rate from the state source.
- If it is not fixed, file a wage claim with your state labor agency (linked in Sources), or with the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division in states that use the federal rate.

How to verify a listing
Every opening on JobPin links to its source posting. Open it, check the date, and confirm the pay on the employer's own site before you give personal information. If a posting shows a rate below your state or city minimum for 2027, it is old or wrong; ask the employer before you apply. How we check listings: how JobPin verifies listings.
