Leisure and hospitality is Orlando's largest sector, 297,200 jobs (BLS, September 2026). Florida's $15 minimum holds through 2027, and no state law requires paid sick leave. Free help: (800) 757-4598. LYNX's 30-day pass costs $50. Job fair: November 5. Last reviewed October 31, 2026.

What pays what here

Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford at all experience levels (BLS OEWS, May 2025). BLS has no separate theme park row in JobPin's table.

Scroll horizontally to view every column.

Occupation Jobs in metro 10th percentile Median here U.S. median
Hand laborers and material movers 24,080 $14.67 $18.57 $19.35
Stockers and order fillers 24,640 $14.55 $17.50 $17.95
Forklift and industrial truck operators 5,780 $17.80 $22.71 $22.32
Light truck drivers 9,590 $15.00 $20.13 $21.57
Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers 15,420 $18.23 $24.16 $28.19
Retail salespersons 49,970 $13.64 $15.52 $17.03
Cashiers 29,340 $13.39 $15.06 $15.81
Customer service representatives 35,690 $15.23 $19.48 $21.53
Home health and personal care aides 8,260 $14.56 $16.40 $17.21
Nursing assistants 12,000 $16.72 $18.12 $20.32
Medical assistants 7,920 $17.62 $21.06 $21.97
Construction laborers 12,290 $14.69 $19.66 $22.66
Landscaping and groundskeeping workers 11,430 $14.65 $17.46 $18.82
Helpers, electricians 850 $16.60 $18.14 $20.51
Electricians 6,970 $18.18 $24.43 $30.38
HVAC mechanics and installers 5,140 $18.28 $24.74 $29.33

These figures predate the current floor, so anything under $15.00 no longer applies. Retail's bottom end moved most: cashiers' 10th percentile was $13.39. Orlando trails the U.S. median in every row except forklift operators, $22.71 here against $22.32. Trades lag most. Electricians earn $24.43, against $30.38 nationally.

Worked example. A cashier at $15.06 makes $602.40 for 40 hours. A hand laborer at $18.57 makes $742.80, or $140.40 more. Other metros: pay benchmarks.

Local pay rules

  • The floor: $15.00 since September 30, 2026, unchanged until December 31, 2027 (FloridaCommerce, read October 31, 2026). So January 1, 2027 brings nothing new (minimum wage by state).
  • Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties: none can set a higher private-sector rate. Statute 218.077 allows a local rate only for a government's own staff or employers receiving a direct subsidy.
  • Tips: take the $3.02 credit on U.S. DOL's table, dated July 1, 2026, from $15.00 and you get $11.98 in cash wages. Tips must fill the gap.
  • Payday: no Florida rule on U.S. DOL's table, revised January 1, 2023 (pay frequency laws). Disney's careers page advertises weekly pay. Ask everyone else.

Local rights: what Orlando workers do not get

Florida leaves most of this to your employer, and local governments cannot step in.

  • Sick pay: no rule in Chapter 448, Florida's labor chapter (2026 Statutes). Statute 218.077 keeps counties from requiring it. A hotel or park's sick pay is whatever its policy or union contract says, so read it.
  • Schedules: Statute 448.077 has blocked local scheduling rules since 2024, which matters in shift-heavy resort work.
  • Breaks: no adult rule on U.S. DOL's tables (break laws).
  • Criminal record questions: no statewide private-employer limit found (ban the box laws).

If you work in Osceola County. Its Wage Recovery Program takes claims for work in the county: over $60, within 12 months, no filing cost. A hearing officer can award back wages plus damages. The catch: you cannot file anonymously, and complaints are public record. For the form, call the County Attorney, (407) 742-2200. JobPin found no matching Orange or Seminole program in a search of county sites.

Elsewhere. U.S. DOL's Orlando District Office, 201 S. Orange Ave., Suite 1200, handles federal minimum wage and overtime: 407-648-6471. Before suing over Florida's minimum, you must send the employer written notice and wait 15 days (Statute 448.110). More: unpaid wages.

Free local help

CareerSource Central Florida serves Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Sumter counties. One number for all: (800) 757-4598, weekdays 8 to 5. Walk-in hours (read October 31, 2026):

Scroll horizontally to view every column.

Location Address Walk-ins
West Orange Career Center West Oaks Mall, 9401 W. Colonial Dr., Ocoee 34761 Mon to Fri, 8 to noon
Osceola Career Center 1800 Denn John Ln., CIT Building, Kissimmee 34744 Mon to Thu, 8 to noon
Southeast Library hub 5575 S. Semoran Blvd., Orlando 32822 Mon to Thu, 10 to 5:30
Valencia East hub 701 N. Econlockhatchee Trail, Bldg. 4, Orlando 32825 Mon to Thu, 8 to 5
Seminole State hub 100 Weldon Blvd., Bldg. C, Sanford 32773 Mon to Thu, 8 to 5

Training money: bad timing today. The board takes training requests only from July through September and from January through March. So plan for January, and enrollment may close early. Its list shows the maximum it covers, such as CDL A at 160 Driving Academy, $4,995, and HVAC/R at 2nd Chance University, $5,200. You must attend an information session and meet a consultant. Programs can change, so confirm. On SNAP? The board also runs Florida's SNAP work program, which can require 80 hours a month. Questions to ask: free job help.

Getting there on LYNX

A ride is $2.00, with a free 90-minute transfer. An All-Day Pass is $4.50, if you ask before paying. The 7-Day Pass is $16 and the 30-Day Pass $50 (LYNX, read October 31, 2026).

For 22 workdays, 44 rides cost $88, so the 30-Day Pass saves $38. It pays off at 25 rides, and it equals 3.3 hours at $15.

Discounts are narrow. Half fares, including a $25 30-Day Pass, go to youth, riders 65 and older, Medicare card holders and certified riders with disabilities. LYNX lists no income-based fare. You need a LYNX ID from the Central Station window, weekdays 8:30 to 4:30. Before you accept an early or late shift, check the ride on LYNX's planner. Call 407-841-5969.

Who employs people here

September is preliminary (BLS Economy at a Glance, extracted October 30, 2026). Unemployment was 4.2%.

Scroll horizontally to view every column.

Sector Jobs, September 2026 Change over 12 months
Total nonfarm 1,507,700 +1.0%
Leisure and hospitality 297,200 +1.2%
Professional and business services 280,800 +3.1%
Trade, transportation and utilities 264,800 -1.2%
Education and health services 211,200 +4.3%
Government 136,600 -0.1%
Construction 92,500 +0.1%
Financial activities 92,300 -2.3%
Manufacturing 52,800 -0.9%

Leisure and hospitality leads, but education and health grew fastest, 4.3%, and business services grew 3.1%. Retail's group, trade and transportation, lost 1.2%. Walt Disney World says it runs six theme and water parks and nearly 29,000 hotel rooms; its hiring events page said to check back soon today. Universal Orlando's careers page was promoting Loews Hotels hiring.

Job fairs and hiring events

JobPin's Orlando job fair hub showed no confirmed upcoming event today. Organizers list these (read October 31, 2026):

  • Orlando Job Fair: Thursday, November 5, 11 AM to 2 PM, Four Points by Sheraton, 5906 International Dr. Free; register first (Best Hire Career Fairs).
  • Paychecks for Patriots: Tuesday, November 10, 10 AM to 1 PM, Orange Technical College, 2900 W. Oak Ridge Rd., Building 1600. For veterans and their spouses (CareerSource Central Florida).

Prepare with how to get hired at a job fair.

A plan for this week

  1. Monday, November 2: walk into West Orange or Osceola by 8 AM. Ask, "Can you check my resume, and can I get on the list for January training?"
  2. Tuesday: map each job against LYNX's planner, including your last ride home. Buy the 30-Day Pass if you will ride 25 times.
  3. Wednesday: read Disney's and Universal's job pages and set alerts. Note which roles list a start date.
  4. Thursday: go to International Drive at 11 AM with printed resumes.
  5. Friday: get payday, sick pay and break rules from each employer in writing. Florida law will not settle those for you. Keep your stubs.

How to verify a listing

Confirm any Disney or Universal role on disneycareers.com or jobs.universalparks.com, not on a third party's page. Check the posting date and open JobPin's source link. A base under $15 outside tipped work is a red flag. Our method: how JobPin verifies listings.
